Severe thunderstorms likely to produce damaging winds and heavy rainfall which may lead to flash flooding are warned for the next several hours.
At 2.59pm 2 February, the Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Kingaroy, Cherbourg, Nanango, Calliope, Gin Gin and Kilcoy.
Slow-moving thunderstorms are developing in a humid and unstable airmass in south east Queensland today. Thunderstorms are expected to continue into the evening before gradually easing.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advise that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it’s flooded, forget it.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.
The next warning is due to be issued by 6pm.
