The South Burnett is bracing for more thunderstorms after a warning was issued by the Bureau of Meteorology for damaging winds and large hailstones this afternoon.
The BOM warns that, on Friday, 1 October at 3.25 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Stanthorpe, the area northeast of Dalby and north of Mount Mowbullan.
These thunderstorms are moving towards the east.
They are forecast to affect the area east of Dalby by 3:55 pm and Yarraman and the area north of Cooyar by 4:25 pm.
Damaging winds and large hailstones are likely.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.
The next warning is due to be issued by 4:30 pm.
A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for the Darling Downs and Granite Belt and parts of the Central Highlands and Coalfields, Capricornia, Wide Bay and Burnett, Maranoa and Warrego and Southeast Coast districts.
