Damaging westerly winds of more than 90km/h are expected across southeast Queensland this evening.
The Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe weather warning for damaging winds on the southeast coast, parts of Wide Bay, Burnett, Darling Downs and Granite Belt.
A strong trough and cold front will sweep across southern Queensland today, pushing offshore overnight.
The BOM reported that strong west to southwesterly winds will develop over southeastern Queensland in the wake of the trough system.
Damaging winds with peak gusts in excess of 90 km/h are possible over the southeastern interior, primarily on and east of elevated terrain (particularly the Main Range and Scenic Rim) from this evening, extending across the southeast overnight and during Tuesday.
These winds may reach Brisbane, Gold Coast, and Sunshine Coast areas during Tuesday morning, particularly on and east of elevated terrain.
Saturated soils in southeastern Queensland are bringing an increased risk of gusty winds toppling trees and powerlines.
Locations that may be affected include Yarraman, Warwick, Gold Coast, Toowoomba, Brisbane, Maroochydore, Stanthorpe, Caboolture, Coolangatta and Ipswich.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advise that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
