Very dangerous thunderstorm moves through Burnett

A very dangerous severe thunderstorm is heading through the northern part of the South Burnett.

The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting giant hailstones, damaging winds and heavy rainfall in the storm heading northeast through the Wide Bay and Burnett district.

Residents at Byee recorded over an inch of rain this afternoon.

The very dangerous thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near the area north of Goomeri around 2pm.

These thunderstorms are moving towards the east to northeast.

The very dangerous thunderstorms are expected to affect the area north of Kilkivan by 2.25pm.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:

* Move your car under cover or away from trees.

* Secure loose outdoor items.

* Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it’s flooded, forget it.

* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.

* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.

* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.

* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.

A more general severe thunderstorm is also current for the Wide Bay and Burnett.
