South Burnett CTC has received funding to run three rounds of an eight-week program called Ready for Work.

The first round was run in 2022. The next round will commence on 7 February 2023.

Ready for Work is a part of the Queensland Government’s Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative.

The program is targeted at young people. It teaches people how to write a resume, apply for work and prepare for an interview.

People will finish the course with an up-to-date resume and will have applied for multiple jobs. They will also know what to do when they get their first call for an interview.

CTC partners with local organisations to deliver the program. Most weeks, young people will benefit from meeting a potential employer and finding out what that employer looks for in an employee.

When the program was run in 2022 all participants who attended more than one session developed a new resume.

Participants were assisted to apply for jobs and follow up on job applications.

By the end of the eight weeks at least two participants had secured interviews.

The program is run in conjunction with the Barambah Youth Hub at the Murgon State High School.

There is no cost to participants, and South Burnett CTC may be able to provide transport.

People may be eligible if:

• They have been working with a job agency for 6 months or more and still don’t have a job; or

• They are not receiving a government payment and would like a job; or

• They are at risk of disengaging from school.

This funding for CTC is just some of the Queensland Government First Start program which will be distributed across the Burnett. READ MORE HERE: burnetttoday.com.au/news/2023/01/21/building-the-future-of-councils/
