Firefighters are working to contain a blaze along a Nanango road this morning, which they report has grown to ‘about the size of a football field’.
A spokesperson for the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services said that three crews were currently working at the corner of Nanango Brooklands Road and McNamara Road west of the Nanango township, where a fire broke out just before 10am today, 15 November.
The spokesperson said that the fire was initially reported as covering a 3 by 30 metre section of roadside scrub, but by the time first responders arrived they found the flames had gotten out of control, covering an area the size of a football field.
Firies used an excavator to create a firebreak and began blackening out the area; as of 10:20am the fire was reportedly contained with no risk to surrounding structures.
QFES confirmed that the affected stretch of Nanango Brooklands Road was still accessible to motorists.
