Cherbourg residents marched in solidarity of mental health acceptance on 12 September, taking to the streets of their town on R U OK? Day waving banners, sharing stories and seeking solace.
The day began at Cherbourg Community Hall, where an assembled crowd of local schoolchildren, residents and Burnett service providers heard from representatives of Cherbourg’s council, the local suicide prevention group, and healthcare professionals.
The group then assembled on Barambah Avenue for a march, heading east then south along Fisher Street before eventually walking to Wakka Wakka Park for a barbecue, live music and activities.
There, they were encouraged to share their own stories of mental health struggles, speak to local service providers and leave messages to those gone too soon.
