BreastScreen Queensland Toowoomba Service has returned to the South Burnett region, visiting Nanango and Kingaroy.

The Mobile Service bus is currently located at Nanango Hospital until 25 October, before heading to Kingaroy Hospital until early December.

BreastScreen Health Promotion Officer Sandra Peut is encouraging local women to attend the free service while it is in their area.

“Our Mobile Service visits the region each year, and we urge women to take advantage of this opportunity by booking a free breast screen,” she said.

“Regular two-yearly screening at BreastScreen Queensland means any breast changes can be picked up at an earlier stage when they’re easier to treat.”

“We strive to make breast screening easy and accessible, with sites close to where people live and a range of appointment times, including offering Saturday appointments at Nanango on 28 September and 12 October, and in Kingaroy on 2 and 30 November,” Ms Peut said.

One in seven women in Australia will develop breast cancer at some stage in their life.

A breast screen is the best way to find breast cancer in its earliest stages for better health outcomes.

“A breast screen is a special x-ray of the breast that can detect small abnormal changes, often before they can be seen or felt by a woman or her doctor,” Ms Peut said.

“Early detection can save your life, providing the best chance of effective treatment, increased survival, and improved quality of life.”

Women aged between 50 and 74 are strongly recommended to have a breast screen every two years, as 75 percent of breast cancer diagnoses are in this age group. Women in their 40s and those aged over 75 are also eligible for the free service every two years.

Appointments can be made by seeing your Health Worker, phoning 13 20 50, or alternatively for more information or to book online: breastscreen.qld.gov.au

BreastScreen Toowoomba operates a year-round service at 661 Ruthven Street at the Bernoth Centre, with weekday and early morning appointments (including some Saturdays) available and plenty of on-site parking.
