Gayndah collaborates for better health

A small group of Gayndah community members are passionate about ensuring their town has access to good health services.

John, the current Gayndah Community Reference Group Chair, has witnessed firsthand for almost a decade the power of collaboration when it comes to improving Gayndah’s health services.

Over the years, he has played a crucial role in liasing with healthcare providers, community members, and decision-makers to shape the future of health services in the region.

“The CRGs serve as a vital forum, bringing all health service providers together every two months to share updates, discuss challenges, and identify opportunities for collaboration,” the respected community leader and advocate said.

“In Gayndah, we are fortunate to have a strong network of engaged stakeholders, including members of the general community who are deeply invested in our local health services.”

One of Gayndah’s biggest health successes thanks to the group’s collaborative approach is the recent $17 million invested into upgrading the Central and Upper Burnett Home of the Aged.

“This project exemplifies what can be achieved when health providers, community members, and support networks come together with a shared goal,” John said.

“The grant will fund additional staff accommodation, upgraded facilities, and an additional 10-bed high-care wing—an outstanding outcome that will benefit our region for years to come.”

Director of Nursing at Gayndah Hospital, Janette, shared about the importance of the Gayndah Community Reference Group’s role in healthcare planning.

“The Community Reference Group is made up of key services, stakeholders, and community members and provides a great forum to not only communicate current healthcare activities but to be informed of community feedback, priorities, and needs,” she said.

The group ensures a level of accountability while providing an invaluable platform for strengthening partnerships between community and our health services.”

The Gayndah Community Reference Group continues to provide a platform for the community and health services to work together.

Recent Gayndah health facility infrastructure upgrades have enhanced both hospital services and allied health offerings, ensuring community members have better access to the care they need.

The community group plays an important role in the community, fostering meaningful connections and ensuring local voices are heard when it comes to health services meeting the community’s needs.

“By uniting different health services under one roof, we create opportunities for collaboration that might not otherwise exist,” John said.

“This strengthens our ability to advocate for better health outcomes for Gayndah and the surrounding areas.”
