Wondai Domestic and Family Violence awareness walk and BBQ breakfast

This May, South Burnett CTC is turning the region purple as part of Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month (DFVPM) — and inviting the community to take a stand.

On Tuesday 20 May, the community is invited to join a walk and free barbecue breakfast starting at 7am from Coronation Park, Wondai.

The event is a show of solidarity for victim-survivors and a chance to raise awareness about the impact domestic and family violence has in our community.

CTC’s Specialist Domestic and Family Violence Service provides support to people experiencing or using violence and works closely with other agencies to create safer outcomes.

The team is committed to promoting community-led action and helping individuals and families access the support they need.

“We want people to understand that domestic and family violence isn’t always physical,” said a CTC spokesperson.

“It can include emotional abuse, coercive control, financial abuse, intimidation, stalking, and social isolation. By raising awareness, we can help more people recognise the signs and get support earlier.”

Throughout May, CTC will also be sharing stories and educational content on social media to highlight different forms of DFV, promote respectful relationships, and encourage conversations about what safety and support look like.

As part of the Turn It Purple campaign, purple ribbons and community displays will be featured in Wondai and Murgon, as a visual reminder that DFV affects people from all walks of life – and that change starts with awareness.

The walk is free and open to all community members. Come along to walk, talk, and stand together for a future free from violence.
