The Wondai Regional Art Gallery June exhibition is fast approaching, with opening night on Friday, 6 June, from 6pm.
With three artists exhibiting their work for the month of June, let’s take a look at who will be exhibiting their art for the month of June.
In Gallery One, “40 Days in My Sketchbook” by Sue Warry will greet you upon entry to the Wondai Art Gallery.
This will be Sue’s fourth solo exhibition, with her sketchbook collection featuring watercolour, mixed media and collage works.
The work will range from rough scribbles to finished works, reflecting her art journal which is a “treasure trove” of jumbled thoughts, new ideas and captured moments.
“In the 40 days leading up to this exhibition, I have put onto paper a sample of the many ideas that have come to mind,” Sue shares in her artist statement.
“While not always perfect, the ideas are a snapshot of the steps and processes over this limited time.”
Turning attention to Gallery Two, or the Main Gallery, the artist Elly Stern will be exhibiting her work, “Colours of my Life.”
Since a young age, Elly has known her aspirations were to become an artist where “Creativity is my passion”, and has spent the last 40 years teaching both abled and disabled people art.
Majoring in painting at Alexander Mackie in Sydney, Elly has many other artistic skills from sculpture to pottery, modern and primitive art, charcoal and mixed media to name a few.
In 2009, Elly had a sculpture feature in the Currumbin Swell Festival, and in 2010, saw her exhibiting her own works alongside some of her students work at the Ronina Gallery on the Gold Coast.
Elly draws inspiration from Africa, her place of birth, the elongated forms in Modigliani’s work and Picasso and Matisse and their colour use.
Elly is currently teaching adult art from her home, The Dawn, in the Gympie region.
Finally, Gallery Three will showcase the exhibition “Changing Landscapes” by artist Ginny Hague.
Ginny has exhibited in group exhibitions over the years and at Wondai Regional Art Gallery two years ago.
This exhibition is about city and country landscapes with some wildlife and in all weather conditions.
Kidz Korner will showcase artwork by Proston State School.
