The South Burnett Parkinson’s Support Group Meeting was held at the Murgon Baptist Church Hall on Monday, 25 August.
I opened the meeting at 10.10am and welcomed the twelve attendees in Carmen’s absence. Garry was due to go home today, so we wish him all the best in his recovery.
Apologies were received from Carmen and Garry, Ron and Emily, Gloria Berry, Alison and Col and Bev and Bill and Lynette. Jan was also absent.
There was only one August birthday and that belongs to Garry on the 27th.
So the bag of lovely Cadbury’s chocolates weren’t necessary! They won’t be going to waste though and are sitting on the top shelf of my fridge waiting to be consumed. Wishing Garry a happy birthday.
I thanked Doug, Jan and Phenella for preparing the hall in readiness for today’s meeting.
Stan raised the subject of his gym attendance where various exercises are proving to be beneficial to him.
Doug handed out a 6 (A4) page information booklet on “Understanding Art Therapy for Parkinson’s Disease” and talked about all the information contained therein.
Apart from art therapy, this included the positive effects music therapy can have on various aspects. One surprising benefit of music therapy is that it improves one’s motor skills and functions.
Kerry’s chair Yoga video was deferred until a future meeting when the people he has created USBs for, will be in attendance.
As mentioned in Carmen’s newsletter, our Christmas lunch get together will be held on Monday, 24th November at the Veterans’ Drop In Centre at Stephens Street West, Murgon.
I am arranging this with Elaine (Bubbles) and will have more information at our September meeting. I can tell you though that the cost per person will be only $20 and it will be a delicious menu. I need to finalise finer details with Elaine.
The September meeting will be held at Graham House on the 29th commencing at 10am. We’ll be having guest speaker retired nurse Marcia Hunt who will be talking about the roles of carers.
