More donations needed for hamper drive

There is just one final week to get your donations in for the 2025 Christmas Hamper Drive.

Donations will be accepted until Friday, 12 December, before South Burnett CTC assemble their goal of 150 hampers.

Currently they are only halfway to this big, generous goal.

This year the 2025 campaign has expanded across the region, with several new donation points beyond Kingaroy.

The CTC offices in Kingaroy, Murgon, Wondai and Nanango have each been donation points this year.

The Wondai Post Office joined the campaign for the first time, whereas the Kingaroy Mall was on board again with their large donation box outside Woolworths.

Murgon’s The Phat Wag joined in this year as a drop-off point, and generously donated an entire Wagyu beast which will be processed into mince and sausages for local families.

The Heritage Nanango and Kingaroy Community banks have donation points at their branches, and Swickers have also kindly donated 150 pork shoulder roasts.

Wheatlands State School, Kingaroy State School, and Coolabunia State School held free dress and crazy hair days to help collect donations.

CTC thanks Tarong Power Stations, and BUMA for cash donations, Prices Plus, The Phat Wag, Wondai Post Office, and Bunnings of their generous support.

The hamper drive was established in 2018 when Jacqui Trace from Bill Hull Car Centre rallied the community to help CTC assemble 80 hampers for local families in need.

Since then, the campaign has grown from 120 hampers in 2023 to this year’s goal of 150 hampers.

WHERE THE HAMPERS GO

All hamper donations will stay in the South Burnett, with CTC working closely with Centacare, Graham House, and Eva’s Place to identify people who have engaged with services throughout the year, and have worked hard to regain stability during challenging times.

The hampers represent a gift of hope, a crucial reminder to those families that they are seen, valued, and not forgotten during the Christmas holidays.

They will be given to families in need in the community, which may be a fellow mum from daycare, a colleague, a neighbour, the person standing behind you in the checkout line, or the person fuelling up in front of you.

The hampers will provide Christmas treats, pantry staples, and essentials which will help free up money for other priorities in the new year such as school uniforms, back to school preparations, or bills.

Each hampers will include:

• Pantry staples

• Christmas treats

• Jelly, custard,

• crackers

• Long-life milk

• Coffee and tea

• Tinned foods

• Juice and cordial

• Hygiene products

• Breakfast cereals

• Pasta, rice, and more

HOW TO DONATE

Next week is the final week to donate and CTC reports they are only about halfway to their target of 150 hampers.

You can support the drive by:

• Donating in-date, unopened pantry items

• Adding a few extra products to your weekly shop
