Poem: The ANZACs

Burnett Junior Writers is a monthly feature allowing student-aged writers across the Burnett region to submit their short stories and poems and see them published in the paper.

In honour of ANZAC Day, this month’s feature is dedicated to remembering the spirit and sacrifice of our service personnel.

Arabella Davey, a 13-year-old from the Chahpingah area of the South Burnett, wrote a beautiful poem inspired by the ANZACs.

The ANZACs

Nought could ever stop them,

Though in service many did fall;

Through mud and shell they battled,

To answer their country’s call.

Onward, ever onward,

To fight for freedom’s cause;

Lead nor bullet could halt them,

In fire they did not pause.

Fearless, valiant, men of splendour,

Men of heroic acts untold;

For their country’s sake they died,

In gallant acts, and bold.
