Generations of war memories

Horses played a key part of the Anzac Day parade at Blackbutt.

Blackbutt community members paused to remember the Anzacs on Sunday morning.

School students, veterans and even horses paraded down the town’s main street.

Veteran Ronald Stark from the RAAF 64 squadron was there with his family and put a wreath down at the cenotaph with his great grandchildren. He trained as a spitfire pilot in 1945.

The stories of war runs deep in the family as his father, Eldor Stark, fought in World War One.

Ronald’s father told him stories about how he would meet the Germans halfway across the battlefield on Sundays and they would exchange chocolates and biscuits. The next day they would be back to fighting each other again.
