Burnett residents under a fire ban

North and South Burnett residents now have a fire ban imposed in their region.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services has imposed a local fire ban for North Coast region residents from 11.55pm on Monday, 30 November.

This includes residents in the North Burnett, South Burnett, Cherbourg, Gympie, Noosa, Sunshine Coast, Bundaberg and Fraser Coast areas.

Current and upcoming fire conditions are perfect for bushfires to ignite and spread quickly.

Under a local fire ban all open fires are prohibited (subject to expemptions) and all permits to light fires which have been issued in the designated areas have been cancelled.

Fires lit for the purpose of cooking or providing warmth are allowed however must be used within a proper constructed vessel (such as a barbecue, pizza oven, fire pit) where the fire cannot escape or cause embers to drift.

The use of power tools may be used during a local fire ban however, QFES encourages people to use these with extreme care and ensure adequate equipment is available to extinguish any fire which may start.

This may include having a person to watch out for any ignitions that occur.

The ban is expected to remain in place until 11.55pm on Monday, 7 December.
