Friendship is a key part of the exercise regime at the ‘Older and Bolder’ group at Conquer Gym.

The fitness group of around 25 retirees celebrated the end of the year with a Christmas High Tea at the ’Top of the Hill Kingaroy’.

They swapped the weights at the gym for tea cups and rum balls as they celebrated a year of keeping their friends accountable in their fitness goals.

Older and Bolder member Julia Gilbody hosted the high tea.

“We’re just enjoying Christmas time and getting together and keeping on laughing,” she said.

Cardio, strength, balance and weights are also some of the areas focussed on during the Older and Bolder classes on Mondays and Thursdays.

“We do a lighter version of the exercises, including bodybuilding like the young ones do,” Ms Gilbody said.

Some of the members have only joined the group this year, while others have been going for many years.

“It’s a great group for anyone new to Kingaroy in the retired group,” she said.

They enjoy developing balance and strength during the sessions, and the well-loved tradition of having coffee together afterwards.

The members, both ladies and men, love that anyone can join in as ’no one is intimidated by the varying degrees of fitness and ability’.

“It’s important for retired folk to get out more,” she said.

“To keep a fit mind for a fit body.”

Older and Bolder classes are held at Conquer Gym at 8.30am every Monday and Thursday.
