The lights are now back on for 250 thousand Queenslanders who were affected by today’s mass power outage.

Powerlink, Energex and Ergon Networks are currently managing the unexpected power outage.

A fire in one of the turbine halls at the Callide Power Station has resulted in 250 thousand Queenslanders without power this afternoon at 1.45pm.

CS Energy tweeted that their teams immediately acted following the incident at the power station near Biloela in Central Queensland.

Powerlink reported that as a result the three units that were generating at the time went offline.

The power station was immediately evacuated and emergency services attended the site. At this stage there are no reported injuries.

Ergon and Energex crews were immediately on standby to restore the power supply as soon as it was safe to do so.

Australian Energy Market Operator confirmed that at 1.44pm the Callide C Power Station generating C3 and C3 tripped. Multiple transmission lines tripped -including all 275kV transmission lines out of H24 Calvale.
