Burton Shoes mark 50 years

Burtons Shoes is proud to be celebrating their 50th birthday.

Kim and Judy Burton are so proud to be celebrating Burtons Shoes 50th Birthday this June. What a milestone!

It is with huge excitement and with a massive thanks to our amazing suppliers I can announce we will be holding a weeklong celebration commencing 14th June to say thank you!

With massive savings in store of 20 per cent, 50 per cent and even selected stock at 75 per cent off, ending on our Super Celebration Saturday on the 19th of June. Every purchase during the week will go in the draw to win thousands of dollars of prizes, giveaways and surprises.

Burtons Shoes is a little piece of the South Burnett’s history and heritage.

Burtons Shoes Salon was started in 1971 in Murgon by Kim’s parents Lee and Betty, though Kim’s ancestors originally settled in Booie in the 1890’s. They purchased a second business in Kingaroy in 1981 Dales Shoe Store located at 179 Kingaroy Street with Mirth Thomlinson, Lee’s Sister.

A chance meeting in Kingaroy street in 1985 saw Burtons Shoes move to their current location at 185 Kingaroy Street.

Kim and Judy purchased the business in 1983 with Betty and Lee guiding and teaching them the ropes. Lee and Betty’s great flair for style and fashion and willingness to pass their business knowledge onto Judy and Kim helped build great foundations and has resulted in celebrating 50 years in business.

The way Betty ordered the upcoming seasons fashion is still the way Judy orders today.

“Choosing quality shoes, accessories and now clothing for our customers who we grow to know personally is what sets us apart from larger chain stores,” Judy said.

“When we are buying our stock, we are thinking of our valued customers, their tastes and needs and always looking for quality footwear that will fit and enhance our customers’ lifestyle.

“Throughout my 38 years fitting shoes I just know the value of a correctly fitted shoe and the comfort it will provide for my customer.

“Quality, comfort and great customer service are the three things we pride ourselves on.”

When looking back over the years both Kim and Judy are proud of the fact that they ‘Never Stood Still’, they kept moving with the trends never sacrificing quality and always delivering the hottest looks of each season for their customers.

Kim pursued a career in Real Estate in 2013 and Judy has continued to grow the business adding social media and a website to reach more customers across the country.

“Adding the website has allowed our customers from all over to have the Burtons experience in their very own home too,” she said.

Kim said there had been many major differences of the past years.

“Back in the 70’s and 80’s a lot of our suppliers still manufactured the products here in Australia, so we dealt with them direct,” he said.

“Now the majority of production has moved overseas and we would love to see this turn around.

“We are very proud to stock Australian made Ugg Boots and Work Boots as we believe the quality is just far superior to anything else on the market.”

Talking shoe trends over the 50 years it is interesting to see how the shoe just keeps being reinvented.

“We really want to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to all the wonderful staff we have had over the years who have become part of the team,” they said.

“To all our wonderful customers we hope you will be part of the celebrations for without you we wouldn’t be celebrating this milestone.”
