A temporary influenza and COVID-19 vaccination clinic will operate from Murgon State High School on Thursday, 2 June.

The vaccination clinic is open to all community members, and people six months and older can receive a free influenza vaccination.

For eligible community members, they can receive their first, second or booster doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccination.

A winter COVID-19 booster dose is recommended for the following people:

• 65 years or older

• a resident of an aged care or disability care facility

• severely immunocompromised, such as – diabetes on medication, cancer, chronic lung and liver conditions, chronic cardiac and kidney disease, severe obesity or underweight, chronic inflammatory conditions

• Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and aged 50 years and older.

• aged 16-64 and with a medical condition that increases the risk of severe COVID-19 illness

• aged 16 to 64 with disability with significant or complex health needs or multiple comorbidities which increase risk of poor outcome.

Darling Downs Health, acting Executive Lead, Health Emergency Operation Centre Michelle Forrest said that typically health authorities would see influenza cases in the community increase in mid-June.

“This year, we’ve seen a rapid increase in the number of influenza cases in our community much earlier and we expect that to continue to grow over the coming weeks,” she said.

“We’re excited to be able to provide an influenza vaccination to all members of the community at no cost, which we know reduces the risk of severe cases.

“In addition to offering an influenza vaccination, the clinic will also provide COVID-19 vaccinations. If you are due for a COVID-19 booster, or perhaps you’re still to receive your first dose, come on in to the clinic and one of our friendly team will be able to help.”
