Kumbia residents are excitedly counting down the days until their Christmas carnival this weekend.

The festive event on Saturday, 3 December will double up as the book launch of their town’s history.

The book ‘Kumbia: Celebrating the centenary of the Kumbia and District Memorial School of Arts’ incorporates two earlier published histories and features many original letters, documents and maps.

The stories of some of the Kumbia region’s pioneers are told in the new history of Kumbia and the surrounding district, which has been published by the Kumbia Hall Committee to commemorate the centenary of the Kumbia and District Memorial School of Arts.

It also includes new material, hundreds of photographs, community group updates, memories and anecdotes, making it the most comprehensive history yet published about the Kumbia area.

The cost of the centenary book is $40. Postage is available for an additional fee.

The books will be available at the Kumbia Christmas Carnival or can be collected from members of the hall committee.

Kumbia Christmas Carnival time

Kumbia’s annual Christmas Carnival this weekend will feature a jumping castle, games, Christmas treats and, of course, a visit from Santa Claus.

The event will also feature twilight markets, fabulous food, a Christmas tree competition, a giant raffle and the ever-popular ham wheel.

This year’s Christmas tree competition, with its tropical/beach theme, is expected to be hotly contested for some great prizes, while chilled drinks, ice cream, snow cones and fairy floss will be available in abundance to cool things down.

The Kumbia Christmas Carnival will be held from 5pm on Saturday, 3 December at the Kumbia Memorial Hall. Santa will make his appearance with a sackful of children’s treats at about 7pm.
