Unknown liquid spilled at highway intersection

Emergency services are advising motorists to avoid the Tingoora area after a tipped over trailer caused an unknown fluid to spill on to the Bunya Highway at Chinchilla Wondai Road just after 2:30pm today.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesperson reported that crews received the call to attend a potential hazardous materials incident between Tingoora and Wooroolin this afternoon, Monday 5 December.

The QFES spokesperson explained that, according to the assessment of on-site crews, the trailer of a vehicle carrying an as-of-yet unknown liquid tipped over at the intersection of Chinchilla Wondai Road and the Bunya Highway, causing a quantity of the fluid to spill on to the road.

QFES crews are reportedly liaising with their scientific team regarding the nature of the spill and are as of writing still identifying the nature of the liquid; according to the QFES spokesperson, the amount of fluid spilled is currently still only minor.

A spokesperson for the Queensland Police Service, which also attended the scene of the incident alongside paramedics from the Queensland Ambulance Service, said that all passengers of the vehicle towing the trailer are accounted for; they have been removed from the vehicle without any injuries.

According to police, motorists are advised to avoid the area as officers are directing traffic away from the scene of the spill.
