Community groups and businesses are invited to share their skills with the region’s youth.

South Burnett CTC Youth Crew will be hosting two Small Town Skills and Family Fun Day events during the Easter school holidays.

Any community members, groups, local organisations and businesses who are interested in delivering some type of activity, stall or workshop on a skill are invited to express their interest.

The Small Town Skills and Family Fun Day will be held from 10am to 6pm in Kumbia on Monday, 3 April and in Proston on Wednesday, 12 April.

South Burnett Youth Crew aims to deliver these Small Town Skills and Family Fun Days to all South Burnett small towns before the youth program finishes up in May 2024. There will be at least two small townships each school holidays.

These Youth Crew events are designed to encourage our local young people to reconnect with their communities through a range of engaging activities such as bike repair classes, cooking workshops, gardening demonstrations, basic vehicle maintenance, life skills and other fun games for the whole family.

Anyone interested in running a skills session is not expected to stay for the entire day as there will be a schedule for demonstrations and workshops dependent on who is available when.

So far the Small Town Skills and Family Fun Days has secured a business to deliver three hours of laser tag games and they plan to run a Prep L registrations session, a dress for the job interview workshop, as well as operate free snow cone and popcorn machines.

However, they are open to many other community organisations joining in the fun and offering their services and contributions in the way of activities, skills, food and drinks.

South Burnett CTC Youth Crew would love to see skills from the community such as woodwork, crafting, mindfulness activities, bike repair, vehicle maintenance, employment upskilling, job interview practice and other essential life skills such as cooking and self-care.

While this is a free community event, if there are small businesses or organisations who would like to take part by delivering a skill or activity, CTC Youth Crew can afford to financially compensate the group through grant funding from the Australian Government through the Safer Communities Fund Round 6 Early Intervention grants stream.

For example, if a QCWA branch wanted to do a scone baking class, CTC Youth Crew would be prepared to pay for the materials/ingredients required, provided they receive a reasonable quote prior to the event and can receive the required receipts afterwards for documentation processes.

Anyone interested in hosting a skills workshop or stall at the Small Town Skills and Family Fun Day events will be required to have a current Blue Card.
