Salvation Army Kingaroy is urging everyone to get involved in this year’s Red Shield Appeal this weekend.

All money raised by the Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal will stay in the South Burnett region to assist local struggling families.

These will support a range of South Burnett community services and programs which help with financial assistance, homelessness, family and domestic violence, and drug and alcohol services.

The Salvation Army’s Major Michelle Myles encouraged people to consider volunteering and make a Red Shield Appeal a fundraiser for their club or a family outing.

“Too many Australians are struggling to make ends meet and they need your support now more than ever,” she said.

While all Australians are feeling the pinch of cost-of-living pressures, it’s more extreme for those living below the poverty line.

“The Salvos are seeing more and more people skipping meals, going without prescribed medications, and turning the lights off.

“We don’t want anybody in the South Burnett to be left alone during these tough times. But we can get through it together, with your support,” Major Myles said.

The Red Shield Appeal weekend is set for 20 and 21 May 20, however there are several volunteer opportunities available throughout the month.

“Kingaroy is known for being a generous and supportive community – and we know this year will be no different,” she said.

The Red Shield Appeal stall will be at the following South Burnett locations this weekend:

IGA Kingaroy: Saturday, 20 May and Sunday, 21 May

Aldi Kingaroy: Saturday, 20 May

IGA Nanango: Sunday, 21 May

Spar Blackbutt: Saturday, 20 May
