Nanango residents need to steer clear of an exclusion zone related to a hazmat incident in Nanango today, Wednesday 30 October.
Police are shrinking down the incident area on Drayton Street, but can not confirm how long the road block will be in place for.
A Queensland Police Service spokesperson reported that the incident was in relation to “a suspicious item that was located on Drayton Street in Nanango”.
“An exclusion zone has been set up, and work is underway to identify the item,” the QPS spokesperson stated earlier.
A Queensland Fire Department spokesperson stated that the incident was located on Drayton Street, near Railway Lane.
Three QFD crews are on scene, with the first arriving at 10.50am.
As a result of the hazmat incident, the South Burnett Regional Council’s Nanango council office is temporarily closed due to its proximity to the incident.
The council stated that its office was within a 100m exclusion zone of the incident which is under investigation.
“The community is advised that Council staff will not return to the office until we have received clearance from the Queensland Police, so there is no certainty of office reopening times at present,” the council stated.
