40 HECTARES: Fire raging near Biggenden

A large grass fire broke out in Lakeside near Biggenden on Friday afternoon.

Queensland Fire Department crews have been on the scene since 1:15pm on Friday, 8 November, fighting a large vegetation fire along Neills Road.

Nine QFD crews including air support are on scene as of writing, fighting the fire which covers approximately 40 hectares, a QFD spokesperson said.

Firies are trying to get the blaze under control and contain it by backburning, creating fire breaks and attacking hot spots in certain areas, the QFD spokesperson said.

QFD have issued a warning to ‘stay informed’ for residents of the areas between Neills Road, Maryborough Biggenden Road, and Billygoat Mountain Road.

No properties are currently in danger, but smoke has blanketed the area.

QFD have advised affected locals to:

– Stay informed because conditions could change;

– Check the QFD Current Bushfires and Warnings website regularly;

– Follow QFD on Facebook and X.com;

– Listen to local radio stations for information;

– Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area;

– Follow bushfire survival plans, or put one in place;

– Keep medications close-by;

– Avoid smoke – stay indoors, close windows and doors, and avoid driving through smoke;

– Watch out for firefighters working in the area;

– Do not fly drones around the fire;

– Call Triple Zero (000) immediately if lives are in danger.
