More fun with the Nanango Youth Theatre awaits in the new year.

On Wednesday, 11 December, the students delivered their heartwarming final performance of the year, showcasing their newfound puppetry skills.

During the final term, the young performers explored the art of puppetry, mastering shadow, finger, hand, and marionette puppets to bring their delightful story to life.

The unforgettable production’s plot centered on a group of animals facing unique challenges, such as a hermit crab searching for a new shell and a snake with a quirky love for shoes.

The touching twist revealed that these characters weren’t animals at all—they were puppets! The story celebrated individuality and self-acceptance, leaving the audience inspired.

Head drama coach Louise Winton praised the students’ creativity and dedication.

“This group has grown so much, both in skill and confidence. It’s a joy to see them shine on stage,” she said.

Co-teacher for the youth theatre Claire Smith, who is also the Nanango State High School drama teacher, was also impressed.

“Theatre Workshop is about more than performance. It builds resilience, teamwork, and friendships that last well beyond the stage,” Ms Smith said.

With students traveling from Murgon, Kingaroy, and Nanango, the weekly workshops have become the highlight of their week.

Not only are they learning valuable theatre skills that translate into everyday life, but they are also forming strong bonds and creating treasured memories.

Nanango Youth Theatre will return during the first week of school on Wednesday, 29 January, 2025.

New students are welcome to join this fun and enriching program. For more information, contact Geoff on 0404 551 830.
