Flynn athletes have been given a boost ahead of Christmas.
Athletes, including some from Mundubbera, were successful in round two of the Federal Government’s 2024-25 Local Sporting Champions and Local Para Champions program.
Federal Member for Flynn, Colin Boyce said more than $31,000 in total will be distributed to 55 young people in the Flynn electorate to help cover costs of participating in local State or National Championships.
“These successful applicants are competing or have competed in sports including equestrian, volleyball, eight ball, athletics, touch football, netball, rowing, softball, cricket, rugby league, taekwondo and gymnastics,” Mr Boyce said.
Successful applicants are from all over the Flynn electorate, including Agnes Water, Biloela, Blackwater, Boyne Island/ Tannum Sands, Bucca, Calliope, Emerald, Gladstone, Gracemere, Jambin, Miriam Vale, Mundubbera, Ridgelands, South Kolan, Springsure, Taroom and Woorabinda.
“As a proud supporter of local sport, I would like to congratulate all the successful applicants,” Mr Boyce said.
Round three of the Local Sporting Championships program is now open, which provides financial assistance for coaches, officials and competitors aged 12-18 participating in state, national or international championships. Successful applicants will receive $500-$750 towards the cost of attending their championships.
Meanwhile, round three of the Local Para Champions program is also now open, which is open to athletes with a disability aged between 12 and 24 years of age, participating in state, national or international championships. The Para program provides $750 to $1000 to support eligible successful applicants.
Applications for both round three programs close on 31 January 2025 and successful applicants will be notified from March 2025.
