Several Burnett national parks have been temporarily closed due to the expected severe weather.

The Queensland Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation made the call this week as Tropical Cyclone Alfred remains on track to impact southeast Queensland.

The Department noted that as weather conditions deteriorate, strong winds, heavy rainfall and flooding are expected, making these national parks unsafe for public use.

These closures include walking tracks, camping areas, day use areas and visitor facilities.

The following Burnett national parks are temporarily closed from Thursday 6 to Friday 14 March:

-Boat Mountain Conservation Park

-McEuen State Forest

-Wondai State Forest

-Yarraman State Forest

-The Palms National Park

-Crows Nest National Park (closed from 5 March)

-Bunya Mountains National Park (closed from 5 March)

-Benarkin State Forest

The Bunya Mountains National Park’s closure includes Dandabah, Westcott and Burton’s Well camping areas, all walking tracks, day-use areas, visitor facilities and all internal roads within the park.

Safety advice has been issued for the following areas, with visitors encouraged to continue monitoring weather warnings and conditions before visiting the following national parks up until 10 March:

-Mount Walsh National Park

– Good Night Scrub National Park

– Coalstoun Lakes National Park

– Cania Gorge National Park
