The Bureau of Meteorology is warning Burnett residents of heavy rain and severe storms in the region this morning.
A thunderstorm classed as ‘dangerous’ by the Bureau has travelled into the South Burnett at around 9:15 am today, Monday 10 March, impacting the area around Murgon and Cherbourg before heading south toward Wondai and Kingaroy.
Meteorologists predict the storm will bring with it ‘intense’ rainfall, which may lead to life-threatening flash flooding.
A storm is also raging in a section of the North Burnett near Biggenden, depositing large amounts of rain on the region.
The Bureau warned Burnett residents, their children and pets to stay inside a secure structure and close all doors and windows for the duration of the storm.
People should not drive during the storm and park their cars undercover and away from trees; to prepare for potential power outages, affected residents should charge necessary electronics.
The Bureau will publish another update on the storms shortly.
