Tableland Hall marks 100 years of ballroom dances and community gatherings this year.
On Saturday, 29 March the Tableland Public Hall Association are holding centenary celebrations.
They are inviting the community to reminise about a by-gone era and celebrate the long-standing community hub for the Tableland and surrounding districts.
Founding members and their decedents, as well as more recent residents of the community are invited to attend this community event.
The free fun will run from 3pm until late at the Tableland Hall, with a food van on site and drinks available for purchase.
There will be music, dancing, a stationary motor display and a Goomeri Chrome Bumper Car Club display.
The organising committee are inviting past performing musicians to come and perform for ‘old time’s sake’.
Anyone with a connection to the hall is encouraged to bring along memorabilia on the centenary day.
The Tableland Hall’s first meeting was held during March 1925, and was originally built as a venue for ballroom dancing.
The community’s first dance was held later that year in September, which raised funds to complete the build of the hall -at the time of the first dance, the hall was only a floor and stage without walls or a roof.
Over the years dances were held periodically throughout the years, with many couples naming the hall as their meeting place.
Sadly, in January 1983, the hall was torn apart by a severe hail storm. The community rallied together to rebuild the hall by the end of 1983.
Around 2010, the committee held a public meeting to discuss the hall’s future, after a downfall in membership made things challenging. The community decided to continue keeping the hall operational.
The hall has progressed to what it is today due to various dedicated members over the years, seeing many improvements in recent years under the current executive.
Anyone interested in attending or performing at the centenary celebrations can reach the committee via the Hall Facebook page or mobile 0448 210 485, or the President Ross 0400 697 300.
