Calling all aspiring South Burnett playwriters.
Nanango Theatre Company is excited to invite aspiring South Burnett playwriters to a weekend workshop.
Thanks to a grant from the Regional Arts Development Fund, the workshop will feature the tutelage of eminent Brisbane playwriter Paula-Mary Camilleri, and will be held at the Company’s Opera House in Nanango over the weekend of 31 May to 1 June.
A renowned teacher, playwriter, composer and theatre critic, Paula-Mary’s plays have featured in the past Heritage NananGO PLAYfests, with the six of her plays presented in last year’s festival taking many awards and showing a great diversity of genres.
Many attendees would remember her one-act play “Magpies” that was fresh and captivating.
Jon Fearnley, the workshop convener, is most excited as, besides her skills and experience, Paula-Mary is a brilliant teacher with a warm and encouraging style.
“We are very lucky to have her as our tutor,” he said, “and we encourage new and experienced writers to join us for the experience.”
“We have a fond hope that some of the work from the weekend will feature in this year’s PLAYfest on the Father’s Day weekend,” Jon Fearnley said.
The Nanango Theatre Company is very appreciative of the support from the Regional Arts Development Fund as it is a collaboration from Arts Queensland and the South Burnett Regional Council to promote and develop the arts locally, and this is the first project in the playwriting space.
We have a number of members who have written plays in recent years, but getting support to refine their craft can be invaluable, he said.
