This month the Burnett will be treated to some fine orchestral music.
Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra are touring through regional Queensland and are set to stop by Kingaroy, Monto, Coalstoun Lakes and Monto.
Also this month, the South Burnett Community Orchestra are set to perform in Kingaroy on 14 June for a benefit concert for the Royal Flying Doctors Service.
Camerata’s Artistic Director and leader, Brendan Joyce is looking forward to the tour.
“Every tour in Queensland is an exciting moment for us because so often we are meeting new people and places for the first time,” he said.
“Camerata tours show the full breadth of our orchestra’s interests and abilities being equally at home in front of kindy kids, school students, people in their twilight years, collaborating with local artists or performing gala evening shows.”
The 17-piece string orchestra will perform a joyous program program with works by Tchaikovsky, Ravel, Bloch, and more, including a brand new composition by Camerata’s 2025 Emerging Composer-in-Residence, Abigail Lui. Camerata is delighted to premiere Lui’s piece in regional Queensland, which was inspired by her recent trip exploring the Warwick and Allora regions.
Camerata will also welcome local performers and community musicians for some encores.
The Monto performance will be extra special.
Camerata has worked with the Monto Museum of Art in a residency program, and will showcase music, new and old, inspired by the artwork of esteemed artist Gil Jamieson.
Attendees of the Monto event will hear how and why each piece of music was chosen to match the artworks. 2025 Emerging Composer-in-Residence Abigail Lui will also compose a piece inspired by Mr Jamieston’s epic Jay Creek panorama especially for this residency, premiered on the tour.
The event at the Monto Museum of Art includes live music from Camerata, a cappella pieces by Monto Performing Arts, and a chance to view the stunning art works in the gallery.
This tour is made possible with the generous support of the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland, and the North Burnet performances have been supported by the North Burnett Regional Council.
