A pair of South Burnett women took out the top gongs at an oratory competition in May, booking their tickets to the Queensland finals later this year.

Proston’s Sarah Greensill and Wondai woman Robinlyn Sinclair attended the Queensland Country Women’s Association Central Region conference in Hervey Bay between 30 and 31 May, where they competed in a Toastmasters-led series of speaking challenges.

The South Burnett contestants went up against attendees from the Gympie, Bundaberg, Fraser Coast and Noosa areas – and came out on top.

Ms Greensill won the event’s public speaking competition, where she was tasked with talking first about a topic of her choosing followed by an impromptu speech on a ‘surprise topic’.

Judges Brigitte McKinnon, Dawn Smith and Deb Barnett from Maryborough’s Toastmasters branch praised the Proston contestant’s “confident speech and clear message,” awarding her the win.

The South Burnett’s speaking talent continued to shine at the conference’s next contest, which asked contestants to flex their storytelling and acting muscles to bring a written work to life.

Wondai’s Robinlyn Sinclair chose a children’s book for her presentation, and in the words of the judges “captivat[ed] listeners with [her] expressive rendition] (…).”

Both Ms Sinclair and Ms Greensill will represent the Central Region at the QCWA’s state competition in Cairns on 27 October.
