Police are searching for an elderly man whom they believe went missing in the waters of Boondooma Dam yesterday morning.

The Queensland Police Service reported that an unidentified party discovered an inflatable motorised dinghy close to the shoreline of the dam near Proston at around 9:15am on Thursday, 26 June.

Police have confirmed the boat’s owner – a 74-year-old Sunshine Coast man – was last seen inside the dinghy just before 6am that same day, meaning he has been missing for over a day at time of writing.

He was last seen wearing a blue jacket and dark-coloured pants.

The QPS has dispatched helicopters to the dam to conduct aerial searches, with local officers, Boondooma Dam personnel and State Emergency Services crews also joining in the search effort.

Searchers this morning surveyed the dam’s shoreline as the SES prepared to dive into the water.

Police gave their last update on the search just before 9am on Friday.

Members of the public with information on the man are asked to contact Policelink on police.qld.gov.au/reporting.
