Special screening of Troy Cassar-Daley’s documentary

On Kingaroy BaconFest eve, Kingaroy Satellite Cinema will host a special once-off screening of Troy Cassar-Daley’s powerful, heartfelt documentary.

As the excitement builds for Kingaroy BaconFest 2025, Burnett locals and visitors alike are in for a special country treat the night before the festivities begin.

A Journey Between the Fires will be shown at the Kingaroy Satellite Cinema on Thursday, 14 August at 7.30pm.

The deeply moving and personal documentary follows the multi award winning country music legend as he records his album Between The Fires.

It captures Mr Cassar-Daley’s raw, profound grief and healing after his mum’s death, as he creates his most personal and meaningful album to date.

The documentary is filmed on Gumbaynggirr Country in northern New South Wales, and explores themes of connection, loss, and the restorative power of music and Country.

“It was an interesting thing to make, it was a heavy time of mourning for my mum,” Mr Cassar-Daley told Burnett Today.

During September 2023, he returned to his old childhood home and asked film editor Michael Bryers and director Belinda Miller to have the cameras rolling, recording his song-writing and the recording journey of his Between the Fires album.

The raw footage was pieced together as a documentary, recording the country music artist’s, who was 54-years-old at the time, journey through grief.

“It’s really big trees to fall in the forest of life [when you lose your parents], it takes a fair bit of processing at any age,” Mr Cassar-Daley said.

He did not realise that so many people would relate to his journey.

“Making an album like this was very therapeutic, I didn’t realise it would be as important to share,” he said.

With a runtime of 88 minutes, A Journey Between the Fires is a rare insight into the man behind the music and a must-see for fans of Australian music and storytelling.

The Kingaroy BaconFest crew were proud to partner with Kingaroy Satellite Cinema’s Lisa and Graham to bring this special event to life.

Seats are strictly limited. Tickets are available now at kingaroycinema.com or by calling 07 4162 2336.
