A large grass fire is raging at a rural locality between Kingaroy and Nanango, with 12 crews of firefighters working to contain the blaze.
The Queensland Fire Department reported it received a Triple Zero call at approximately 2:52pm on Thursday, 28 August regarding a vegetation fire near Bellbird and Semgreens Roads in Coolabunia.
Rural Fire Service crews dispatched to the scene arrived around half an hour later, finding a 70-acre stretch of grassland engulfed by flames.
According to on-site reports relayed to Burnett Today by a QFD spokesperson, the fire is burning uphill toward Lucas Road near the D’Aguilar Highway connecting Kingaroy and Nanango.
No structures are currently at risk of damage.
Firefighters are working to put in firebreaks to stop the spread of the blaze, with the QFD issuing a ‘Stay Informed’ level warning to residents of the area.
Residents near the warning area are urged to follow their bushfire survival plan – or create one if they do not have one already – as well as remain inside their homes, closing all windows and doors to limit exposure to smoke.
