The Bunya Mountains Natural History Association is a community organization that explores and promotes the natural and social history of the Bunya Mountains.
This past year has been a busy time at the Bunya Mountains Natural History Association and its Cedarvale and Hillview museums.
During the year contractors and members carried out various repairs and repainting, thanks to a most generous grant from the Heritage Bank Nanango Community Fund. A new roof was also built, something we could never have financed ourselves.
This will help to preserve this old building into the future. Thank you Heritage Bank!
We have many visitors when we are open on market day each month. As in past years, Easter was our busiest time with 450 people visiting Cedarvale. This was despite the closure of Dandabah Park during this period.
Another feature of the 2024/25 year has been the request to open Cedarvale for group visits.
Various schools have visited, including St Johns Lutheran School Kingaroy staff whilst on retreat and Coolabunia State School students.
One hundred Toowoomba TAFE students also visited. This activity was the culmination of a unit of work that featured the Bunya Mountains.
Many of the students were teenage refugees who had never visited the Bunyas before.
Other groups visiting Cedarvale included a Probus group from Ashgrove and the Big Skies group from Western Downs.
Two of our members take regular bird walks – an activity which is growing in popularity.
Other members have opened Cedarvale when the Bunya Mountains Community Association events are held nearby such as the 2024 “Music on Nature’s Porch”.
Members also appreciated their visit to the Kumbia museum and were impressed by their extensive collection of photos and memorabilia of the Bunya Mountains and surrounding areas.
If you would like to visit our museum’s Cedarvale and Hillview, we open every Bunya Mountains Market Day (last Sunday of each month), and when requested by a group.
We look forward to being neighbours to a revamped Dandabah Park and Picnic Area when the upgrade is completed later this year.
And remember – we always welcome new members!
