Fire and rescue crews are working on containing a grass fire in the Wondai area.
A Queensland Fire Department spokesperson reported that the fire started just after 10am on Wednesday, 17 September in the vicinity of the Bunya Highway and East Street, where the Wondai United Petroleum is.
Residents in the vicinity are being urged to stay informed of the grass fire’s movements.
The latest QFD reports show the fire had been burning near East Street and was moving towards Burrows Street.
QFD reported that there were both fire and rescue, and rural fire rescue crews on scene.
Firefighting aircraft have also been employed to help ground crews.
QFD data shows that there are currently 10 crews on scene, with a further five en route to the fire.
The crews are working to contain the fire and establish fire breaks in the area to slow down the blaze.
The QFD have brought in heavy machinery to assist with creating the fire breaks.
Currently no properties are at risk, however some roads may be closed and smoke can make it hard for some people to breath and reduced visibility when driving.
What you should do:
– Stay informed because conditions could change
– Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.
– Decide what you will do if the bushfire gets closer.
– Follow your bushfire survival plan now. If you do not have a bushfire survival plan, make one on the QFD website.
– Decide where you and the people you live with will go. This could be with family or a friend away from the fire.
– Keep medications close by.
– Avoid smoke – stay indoors, close windows and doors, and avoid driving through smoke.
– Watch out for firefighters working in the area.
– Do not fly drones around the fire. Drones affect air operations.
– If your life is in danger, call Triple Zero (000) immediately.
