Attention all residents of Cherbourg, South Burnett and North Burnett.
As of Thursday, 2 October, the Queensland Fire Department (QFD) will impose a local fire ban for Central Region residents, which includes the local government areas of North Burnett, South Burnett, Cherbourg, Gympie, Bundaberg, Gladstone and Banana.
With current fire conditions perfect for bushfires to ignite and spread quickly, the local fire ban states that all open fires are prohibited, and all Permits to Light Fire which have been issued in the designated areas, have been suspended for the duration of the ban.
Power tools are allowed to be used during a local fire ban, with QFD encouraging people to use them with extreme care and ensure adequate equipment is available to extinguish any fire which may start, which can include a person being available to watch for any ignitions that could occur.
The local fire ban is expected to remain in place until 11.59pm on Friday, 3 October.
More information on fire bans and exemptions can be found on the QFD website, fire.qld.gov.au/firebans
