Regional Queenslanders will have a unique opportunity to hear from some of the state’s leading arts voices at an important panel discussion hosted by the Flying Arts Alliance this Friday 17 October.
The event, called Talk by Flying Arts: The Future of Art in the Regions, will explore how arts and culture can continue to thrive outside the major cities, and it can be streamed online for free.
Moderated by ABC Breakfast presenter Loretta Ryan, the panel brings together distinguished figures from across the arts landscape.
Attendees will hear from The Hon. Anthe Philippides, Chair of Flying Arts; cultural patron Gina Fairfax AC; Chris Saines, Director of QAGOMA; artist and Flying Arts alumni John Honeywill; and Rossina Moore, President of the Queensland Art Teachers Association (QATA).
Together, they will discuss the opportunities, challenges, and strategies for nurturing creativity and artistic practice in regional and remote communities.
Flying Arts has been at the forefront of visual arts development in Queensland since 1971, working to inspire artists, educators, and communities while addressing the barriers of distance and isolation.
Flying Arts delivers workshops, residencies, touring exhibitions, education, Queensland Regional Art Awards (QRAA) and professional development directly to regional areas, ensuring equitable access to high-quality arts experiences.
Over more than 50 years, Flying Arts has helped regional Queenslanders build local creative capital and pursue lifelong engagement with the visual arts.
Its programs support emerging and established artists, offer tailored young artist residencies, and foster professional growth across the state.
The panel discussion will explore how communities can continue to thrive through art.
The online event is free, making it accessible to anyone with an internet connection.
Whether you’re an artist, educator, student, or arts enthusiast this is a rare opportunity to engage with leading arts thinkers and shape the conversation about creativity in regional Queensland.
The free event is available both in person at the ABC Brisbane office (114 Grey Street, South Brisbane) and will also be livestreamed online. Attendees can note whether they will attend online or in person when they register.
