Nominations open for Youth Council

The call is out for all future leaders, as nominations for the 2026 South Burnett Regional Youth Council are open, with the deadline of closure fast approaching.

The South Burnett Regional Council has been excited to announce that the nominations for the 2026 Youth Council are open.

The deadline for nominations is Sunday, 14 December 2025.

“We are calling on motivated young people aged 12 to 24 who live in the South Burnett region, including Cherbourg, to step forward and become part of this dynamic group,” the Council said.

Chair of the Youth Council, Councillor Danita Potter, said, “Youth Council is a great opportunity for the Youth to have a voice and give advice to Council in its decision making.”

“The youth are integral in shaping the region’s future as it is their region and their future,” Cr Potter said. “I have been very excited to be a part of the Youth Council during 2025 and look forward to next year’s group.”

The Youth Council will comprise up to 20 members and will be a diverse representation of the youth population across the region.

It’s a unique opportunity for young people to advocate for the needs and aspirations of their peers, while gaining valuable leadership and personal development skills.

As a Youth Councillor, members will:

• Help organise youth and community events.

• Participate in the delivery of youth projects.

• Take part in self-development activities.

• Gain insight into how local government operates.

So, those eager to get a head start in the Council atmosphere, why not check out Youth Council while you can.
