Christmas comes to Kumbia

Santa didn’t just drop in at Kumbia on a December evening – he danced a jig with delighted children and ushered in the festive season for 2025.

More than 300 people enjoyed the annual Christmas Carnival in the grounds of the Kumbia Memorial Hall on 6 December, catching up with friends and family as well as doing some Christmas shopping at the twilight markets.

“It was a wonderful evening, with something for everyone – games and the bouncy castle for the children and socialising in the shade for the adults,” Kumbia Hall Committee treasurer Anne Skinner said.

“Santa’s arrival was a real highlight. He handed out Santa Bags to all the children and danced with them in the hall. Everyone had a great time.”

The evening featured a giant raffle with prizes donated by generous local businesses, a popular ham wheel and delicious food.

Market stalls sold everything from Christmas gifts and hand-crafted wooden toys to bright bouncy balls, sunflowers and tasty desserts.

The Kumbia Christmas Carnival is hosted each year by the Kumbia Hall Committee in conjunction with other local community groups, including the Catholic Ladies Committee and the Kumbia Federation Heritage Centre.
