CHERBOURG

Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council are urging their community to limit their gatherings and parties in the lead-up to New Years after a positive covid-19 case was confirmed in the community on 29 December.

The council stated on their Facebook page that the individual had gone into isolation. There are 22 close contacts who recently attended an event with the individual -10 adults and 12 children, with three of the adults and four of the children from Cherbourg.

Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council released a Facebook post this morning advising there were likely more positive Covid-19 cases in the community, but are waiting for confirmed results and numbers from Queensland Health.

The council are encouraging everyone in the community to get tested – testing is being held at the Cherbourg Hospital for the moment.

Queensland Health will contact any individuals who test positive -if you do test positive you will be required to isolate at home – any serious cases may be removed from community to isolate and recover

Council stresses that now is the time for Cherbourg to GET READY:

-Get any food and medical supplies stocked up in case you and your family need to isolate.

– No parties or large gatherings (New years coming up, please no parties)

– Get Tested – Get Vaccinated

– No unnecessary travel – discourage visitors

– WEAR YOUR MASK – WASH HANDS – SOCIAL DISTANCE

– Need support? Call Cherbourg Hospital 4169 8800

Health services are escalating their response – with more staff being sent – more testing and vaccinations

The Cherbourg Local Disaster Group (LDMG) will be meeting daily to coordinate the response to this event – information will be updated as regularly as possible through the Cherbourg Council and Cherbourg Radio Facebook and website as well as on Cherbourg Radio on air.
