Sporting fans will be sure to tune in to a radio auction for their chance to secure their own signed Brisbane Roar shirt, Brisbane Heat bat or Socceroos pictorial tribute to Harry Kewell.

The Dinner with the Captains, raising critical funds in support of Queenslanders with cancer, is a highly anticipated event on the South Burnett calendar.

This year, due to Covid-19, the event will be operating a little differently.

A radio auction with the captains will take place live on air this Friday, 27 November.

Long-term organiser of the Dinner with the Captains fundraiser, Carl Rackemann, urged South Burnett locals to tune into Crow FM on Friday morning for their chance to bid on some highly coveted sporting and music memorabilia.

“As well as some amazing auction items, we have former national sporting captains joining us through the morning, including Allan Border, Natalie Cook, Ian Healy and Powderfinger lead vocalist Bernard Fanning,” said Mr Rackemann.

The auction will also be streamed live through the event’s Facebook page, for those who wish to bid, but are unable to tune in over the radio.

Dinner with the Captains has been a vital fundraising event organised by the South Burnett Relay for Life committee for the past 10 years. All funds raised will go towards cancer support services, prevention programs and lifesaving cancer research.

Mr Rackemann was determined to keep the event running in 2020, especially since the South Burnett Relay for Life only went ahead virtually this year.

“We have been working hard to put together a quality list of auction items and seek the support of some of our past Dinner sponsors,” said Mr Rackemann.

Dinner with the Captains has always engaged a high level of community support.

This year was no different with the Telstra store Kingaroy coming on board as a major sponsor from the get-go.

The event typically raises between $30,000 to $50,000 each year, with these funds crucial to improving the lives of Queenslanders impacted by cancer.

Cancer Council Queensland CEO Ms Chris McMillan thanked Mr Rackemann and the South Burnett Relay For Life committee for their ongoing support.

“Longstanding annual fundraising events such as Dinner with the Captains are incredibly important to both the local community and Cancer Council Queensland,” she said.

“I sincerely thank Mr Rackmann and his fellow Relay For Life committee members for their dedication to raising funds in support of Queenslanders impacted by cancer.

“This year has been challenging for many of our committed fundraisers as they navigate Covid-19 restrictions. I commend them on the innovative ways they have adapted their events to ensure they continue to go ahead safely, in the current climate.”

Auction with the Captains will be held from 6 – 10 AM on Friday, 27 November on 90.7 Crow FM and online at
