Kelsey Anderson, Director of ‘Brilliant Music Co’ had an idea for her music students to give back to the community.
The idea of a ‘Scale-A-Thon’ came into being, and when Kelsey asked her students what charity they would like to donate their raised money to, the South Burnett Autism Support Group was the charity chosen.
The 62 students were challenged with learning 14 different scales on either the guitar or piano. For every scale they learnt, they asked friends and family to sponsor them.
These students received prizes for their efforts. The Scale Hero Award went to 11-year-old, Kiralee Harding, learning a total of 14 scales.
The Adult Scale Hero Award went to Dannii Agius for learning a total of 14 scales, and the Fundraising Champion went to 7-year-old, Lane Koy for raising $465 on his own.
The total scales learnt were 278 with a total of funds raised of $1,275.60. A cheque was presented by Kelsey, to the very grateful members of the South Burnett Autism Support Group.
Kelsey teaches piano, guitar and ukulele at her Nanango premises at 2/2 Appin Street. From the beginnings of ‘Brilliant Music Co’, Kelsey has moved from Brisbane is 2012, taught in Kingaroy from 2015, and then moved her business to Nanango in 2021.
There are three types of lessons taught by Kelsey. Each student starts at Group, then progress to Deluxe, and then Private lessons. Students get to work one on one for 20 minutes, then sight-reading (iPad plugged into digital piano) for 20 minutes, and the next 20 minutes is theory.
Kelsey has some students with special needs and they are all integrated into groups. ‘Brilliant Music Co’ is open Tuesday – Thursday from 9 am –to 3 pm, then Monday – Friday from 3 pm to 6:30 pm. They are also taking enrolments for Term 3.
