10 family fun things to do these school holidays

Spending time with family is especially important -try starting on Saturday 18 September, the first day of the Spring School Holidays.

Here are some upcoming events you could do as a family, it’s never too late to start spending time with your family.

1. Wondai Spring Garden Expo 25-26 September

Held at Wondai Sportsgrounds from 8am to 4.30pm Saturday, and 8am to 1pm Sunday. Browse through numerous stalls ranging from plants to ornaments, a perfect outing for the gardening family.

2. Kingaroy Cinema

There are plenty of movies for everybody in the family. School holiday showings include Paw Patrol, Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings, Respect, Ainbo: Spirit of the Amazon and Space Jam. 3. Bunya Mountains

This outing is perfect for the family that loves getting outdoors and experiencing nature. A 50-minute drive from Kingaroy via the Bunya Mountains Rd and Bunya Hwy/State Route 49 makes it an easy day trip.

4. Rail Trails

Grab the bicycles out and head along the Kingaroy to Kilkivan rail trail to see some of the South Burnett’s countryside. Walk or run along the track at any of the trail entrances near the various towns. Why not explore the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail starting at Yarraman or Blackbutt too?

5. Wondai Country Markets Saturday 25 September

Anyone looking for a bargain on produce and bric-a-brac? Markets operate in Coronation Park, MacKenzie Street, in the Wondai Central Business District every fourth Saturday of the month, 7am to 12pm.

6. Op Shopping – try and keep it local

Need to stock up clothing or books, try your local op shops, they don’t disappoint. Opening timed vary depending on the store.

7. Dairy Museum

Step back in time and explore the Queensland Dairy and Heritage Museum at Murgon. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children. The Museum is open Tuesday to Sunday 9.30am-12.30pm.

8. Free school holiday fun

Have fun for free at your nearest South Burnett library. To help keep boredom at bay during the upcoming school holidays, library staff have been busy preparing bright and colourful take-home craft packs that are sure to keep young community members entertained. These packs contain assorted craft items and an instruction sheet that explains how each craft can be created. The packs will be available for collection from the Blackbutt, Kingaroy, Murgon, Nanango, Proston and Wondai Libraries from 20 September – 1 October 2021.

9. South Burnett Kart Hire – Nanango

10. Kingaroy Observatory – Stars and Planets – 25 September – 7pm – 9pm
