Gliding fanatics have had the opportunity to participate in the 2021 Queensland State Championships to soar above the rest.

Kingaroy Soaring Club President, Todd Edwards, said the event was scheduled to run from 26 Sunday to 1 October Friday – weather permitting.

“It’s a challenge, it’s good fun – you are working with nature,” Edwards said.

The State Championships saw around 30 participate in a Grand Prix format at the Kingaroy club.

“It’s great to glide out here, we have wide-open spaces, lots of paddocks and the airspace above Kingaroy is quite high,” he said.

Although the sport isn’t widely known, Edwards said participants from all walks of life are getting involved.

“We have lots of different walks of life who fly from doctors to plumbers and lawyers.

“You need to be safe and have your wits about you but if they want to do it they can,” he said.
