A trove of treasures will be found among the Birds of a Feather ‘nest’ this weekend.

The South Burnett women’s cancer support group is running a huge garage sale on Friday 26 and Saturday 27 April in Kingaroy.

They will have a range of household goods, books and records to browse through as well as clothing, kitchen items, unique collectables and even plants for sale.

Some members have even put up hand-made jams, chutneys and baked goods for sale.

Birds of a Feather Cancer Support Group secretary Steph Stevens shared that all of the garage sale’s proceeds would go to Cancer Council Queensland, supporting cancer research and programs.

This year the group marks their 20th anniversary, with the garage sale just one of many birthday year events.

They will be having Josie’s Biggest Morning Tea at the Kumbia Hall on 13 June, a Daffodil Day stall in the shopping mall in August, another Biggest Morning Tea in September and will also be involved in the 2024 South Burnett Relay for Life in October – in addition to their official 20th birthday celebrations in August.

“We’re a group of women who all have cancer, or have had cancer, and are cancer survivors,” Steph said.

“Some are still going through treatment, but most of us are survivors.”

The group provides practical and emotional support to South Burnett women with cancer.

Their community is valuable for anyone with cancer, especially those grappling with a new diagnosis.

“When [people] meet us, they’re meeting women of all different ages – we’ve got a lot of older ladies who have been cancer-free for 30, 40 years,” Steph said.

“That is an inspiration to see… cancer isn’t necessarily a death sentence – there can be life after cancer and we’re living proof of that.”

The Birds of a Feather Cancer Support Group’s Huge Annual Garage Sale has plenty of goods generously donated from members and the general public.

The garage sale was held at 28 Arthur Street, Kingaroy on Friday morning, 26 April, and again on Saturday morning, 27 April from 7am to noon.
