Health in focus for May

The South Burnett Parkinson’s Support Group’s May meeting was held at the Murgon RSL sub-branch drop in centre at Stephens Street West on Monday, 26 May.

It was good to see Carmen back at the helm after her recent hospitalisation from a severe case of ‘flu.

The meeting commenced at 10.15am with Carmen welcoming the thirteen attendees.

Apologies were received from Janette, Gloria, Ron and Emily, Gary and Margaret Long, and Lynette. Also absent were Doug, Terry and Merrilyn.

The guest speaker, Marcia Hunt, who is a Women’s Health Mobile Nurse operating out of Murgon, was introduced and welcomed by Carmen.

Marcia, who has been a nurse for 59 years had everyone interested in the topics she discussed which included, but not limited to, strokes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea and Bell’s Palsy.

This talk was extremely informative and helpful to all in attendance.

At the end, Carmen thanked Marcia kindly for her attendance and for taking the time to share her invaluable knowledge on the chosen subjects.

April birthdays were celebrated by: Carmen, Alison and Phenella.

May birthdays were celebrated by: Kerry, Col, Rosemary (today) and Ancy.

The next meeting will be held on Monday 30 June at Graham House.

Kerry will be bringing along a Tai Chi video for everyone to learn from and enjoy.

After that a representative from SB Care will be talking about the new important Aged Care Government rules commencing 1 July.

July’s meeting, which will be a brunch one, will be held on Monday 28 July, at the Murgon RSL Sub-branch drop in centre at Stephens Street West, Murgon.

If you would like any information on the Parkinson’s Support Group, please contact Carmen (Coordinator) on 5486 1268.
